China Declares Ban On Ivory Trade By The End Of 2017 For An Amazing Reason

Driven by escalating demands for wildlife and forest products, the world is dealing with an unparalleled spike in illegal ivory trade, threatening to rescind decades of substantial conservation gains. And this ivory trade has been the primary reason that the elephant population worldwide is declining at an alarming rate.

So, a near-complete ban on commercial trade in ivory tusks of elephants is the best way to ensure that the domestic markets do not contribute to the decline of wild species.

Taking one step further, China announces to shut down ivory trade in what is being hailed as ‘game changer‘ for the future of Africa’s endangered species i.e. elephants.

Let’s look at China’s plans behind this banning decision.
